Hershey’s Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup

Name: Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup
Manufacturer: Hershey’s
Rating: 4/5

An American classic! I love these. They come in several different forms, but these are the single cups that come wrapped in orange wrappers. These are on the large side, almost the size of my palm.

The peanut butter cups have a wonderful, nutty peanut smell–rich and roasted. The chocolate has a slight sweet scent–it takes the back stage to the candy, as its meant to. The cup is ridged on the sides, which I’ve always loved because the chocolate is thicker on the ridges.

The chocolate isn’t very thick, but there’s enough there to detect a slight creaminess. The peanut butter is the star–dense, substantial, slightly sweet, and somewhat earthy.  It crumbles slightly in the mouth. The chocolate on the bottom of the cup is quite thin and melts easily, sticking to the bottom of the paper cup.

These are a definite 4–absolutely delicious and worth seeking out.

Choxie Caramel Chocolate Trio Part Three

The grand conclusion! Okay, maybe it’s not so grand. But it is the conclusion, so I’m reviewing the last flavor, warm spiced caramels with white chocolate.

I can sort of taste the chocolate, in that it is a little creamier than the other two flavors. The caramel is buttery and delicious, the same as in the other two flavors, but here’s the problem–the caramel doesn’t seem particularly “spiced” to me. There’s the tiniest hint of cinnamon, but that’s about it as far as the spice as concerned. Spiced caramels are something I’d like to try; it looks like I’ll have to seek some out.

I’ll give this a 3.5, so it was tasty, just a little disappointing. The trio gets an average score of 3.7.

I’ll be out this evening (I hardly ever have plans on a Friday, it’s rather shocking) so I’ll continue my Choxie recap on Monday. I apologize for the spotty entries lately; I went through a bit of rough patch and wasn’t able to enjoy candy enough to review it consistently. Things are looking up a little though, so  entries should be more consistent now. Thanks for your continued interest, guys.

Choxie Chocolate Caramel Trio Part I

Name: Chocolate Caramel Trio
Manufacturer: Choxie
Rating: 3/5

These were a Valentine’s Present, and I’m going to rate each flavor in its own entry, since they’re quite different from each other.

The presentation on these, it should be noted, was quite nice-the caramels were sealed in a bag and tucked inside a nice cardboard package, tied with a brown ribbon. The caramels themselves are little balls covered with three different kinds of chocolate.

Today’s caramel is the salted caramel, which is covered with dark chocolate. I could barely taste the chocolate, as the layer is quite thin. The caramel itself is lovely–very buttery and rich. However, I don’t much care for the salted angle. I can see where, if properly done, the salt could serve to highlight the sweetness of the candy. However, a little too much salt was added, and it left an odd after taste. This kind was merely average, I’m afraid

Hershey’s Milk Chocolate

Name: Hershey’s Milk Chocolate
Manufacturer: Hershey’s
Rating 3.5/5

Hershey’s is an American classic, and as such I decided it was about time I reviewed it.

Hershey’s comes in bars divided into squares, wrapped in brown chocolate. They were in foil and paper when I was younger–I wonder why they changed it? The aroma is sweet and chocolate, a bit milky. Each square has the word “Hershey’s” stamped on it.

The chocolate is mild, slightly creamy with a sort of tang to it–I’ve heard it described as “yougurty”, and I’d say that’s fairly accurate. It takes awhile to melt, which is my biggest problem with it. It sort of clumps.

The taste is delicious, and it’s a classic, so it gets a 3.5 from me!

Twizzler’s Twizted Valentine Pull ‘n Peel

Name: Twizted Valentine Pull ‘n Peel
Manufacturer: Hershey
Rating: 3.5/5

I figured I needed to review some kind of Valentine’s Day candy so I made a special trip to Target for you, my loyal readers.

As the name would suggest, this is the type of candy you attach to Valentine’s Day cards, and true to Valentine’s day, there’s about a million of this in a huge bag. It’s a miniature version of the Pull ‘n Peel—thin, soft strings of licorice pressed together so each can be pulled off–but in this case the flavor is different. The color is different too–purple, pink, and red mixed all together.

The bag claims that the strands are “berry (how generic), strawberry, and raspberry” flavored. To be honest, they all taste the same to me a sort of artificial mixed berry. The nice thing is that it’s a soft kind of flavor, like a berry smoothie. The scent is actually more intense than the taste.

This candy won’t set anyone’s world on fire, but it’s good, and it’s a nice holiday novelty.

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone! Thanks for reading.

Nestle Snocaps

Name: Snocaps
Manufacturer: Nestle
Rating: 4/5

So the chocolate review was a bust–there was sign-up sheet you were supposed to get on and which stupid me didn’t check on before hand. There’s always next time, though!

Today I’m reviewing everyone’s favorite movie candy–or, at least, mine. Snocaps are little bits of dark chocolate, shaped like chocolate chips, and covered with white nonpareils. I’ve only ever seen them in ginormous movie-sized boxes (mine was left over from a movie my parents went to. They always bring me the leftover candy. They’re awesome).

Anyway, they’re delicious. The chocolate actually tastes like dark chocolate, not bitter milk chocolate, and the nonpareils add the most delicious crunch. They’re so poppable, too. The chocolate has some creaminess, as well, instead of being chalky. Highly recommended.

Werther’s Coffee

Name: Werther’s Coffee
Manufacturer: Storck
Rating: 4/5

So it occurs to me that I haven’t yet reviewed the original Werthers, which are one of my favorites. However, my sister happened to leave behind these a few weeks ago, so that’s what I’m reviewing. I’m not a huge coffee fan, but I did used to love the coffee hard candies that my Dutch neighbors used to have.

The candies are the standard Werther’s lozenges individually wrapped and then sealed in a larger bag. In this case, the light camel colors of the original Werthers is swirled with a dark brown. The candy has a nice appealing coffee smell–not too bitter or sharp.

The caramel taste of the original Werthers is a bit more maple here, and the coffee flavor has a slight creaminess to it which I really like–sort of like milky coffee. The candy is the right degree of hardness–substantial enough to suck on, but cleaves easily when bitten.

I think the original is still my favorite, but these are definitely worth a look as well.

Tootsie Roll

Name: Tootsie Roll
Manufacturer: Tootsie Roll
Rating: 3.5/5

These things were my candy crack as a kid. I usually played by the rules, but I would defy my orthodontist to eat these.

Tootsie Rolls are basically a kind of chocolate taffy. They come in two forms–midgees, little logs wrapped in wax paper, and then the bigger version, a long log divided into squares protected by a cardboard sleeve and wrapper. There’s not much of an aroma to speak of.

The chocolatetaste is fairly faint and artificial, although it has a nice firm chew and a pretty glossy brown color. The only real problem I note is that it’s close to the point of tooth-achingly sweet, not my favorite trait.

To most people it would be a fairly average candy–pleasant but nothing more. I have to give it the extra .5 though, because of all the memories,
